Making a significant contribution to the economy and providing jobs
Germany's offshore industry is establishing itself as a new and powerful industrial sector. Be it foundations, towers, rotor blades or turbines – or even service, maintenance and logistics – each of the components and professional fields needed for an offshore wind farm can now be (or will soon be) solely provided using German expertise. The sector is growing, and so too is the need for skilled professionals. Over 5,000 people are already working in the offshore wind industry; this figure could quadruple by the year 2020.
Over 60 high-qualified sales personnel and engineers are working for DanTysk in Hamburg alone, and over 50 service providers from the metropolitan area are involved in the project. In light of the numerous projects planned for the future, it looks like both Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München will need to increase the number of skilled employees operating in the field of renewable energy.
