The world's largest installation vessel is officially named
The champagne bottle shattered with a loud bang as it hit the side of the 'Pacific Osprey' installation vessel On 3 April the Danish port of Odense on the island of Funen witnessed the christening of one of the largest installation vessels in the world. Although the appearance of some unexpected spring sunshine impressed the guests, the real highlight was a tour of the 161-metre-long vessel with many taking the opportunity to get a closer look at the crane cabin. This steel 'osprey' has now become the youngest vessel being operated by the Danish shipping company Swire Blue Ocean and will be used to install the 3.6 MW Siemens turbines.
German newspaper 'Hamburger Abendblatt' was also clearly impressed by the size of the installation vessel, as can be seen in its detailed report.
